What Are the Real Values of the Soft Sell Point of View — Interdependence

By Judith & Jim

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.

John Muir

The community stagnates without the impulse of the individual. The impulse dies away without the sympathy of the community.

William James

How more clearly and elegantly can the fact of our interdependence, our interconnectedness, our mutual need of one another be expressed!Interdependence is the foundation upon which Soft Sell marketing stands.

Imagine it this way.

Every time you’re involved in a commercial transaction—whether you’re selling or buying— a lot more is going on than just an exchange of product or service for money.

The product and the cash are the external, obvious ingredients—that part of the transaction everyone can see and takes for granted.

But there is more. In fact, not only more, but far more important.

Because it is the internal ingredients that make up the exchange of intention(s).

In every sale you and the buyer bring conscious and unconscious expectations to the table and there is an invisible flow—back and forth—of each of your intention. These intentions drive the process. They are the energetic determinations behind the choices and decisions each of you make. They determine the end result both of you have in mind and want to bring about.

It’s not often that you or the buyer reveal what you want the end result to be. And it’s also possible, and very often probable, that, aside from the external options—the exchange of money and goods—neither of you may even be aware of some of the deeper currents that are motivating you.

Still and all, whether or not you are aware of these deeper intentions and expectations, they play a significant role in how the process goes down.

Why?

Because we all exist within the interdependent nature of being alive in this universe. Nothing stands alone. Life IS relationship.

So every time you sell or buy something a particular kind of reverberation is sent out through the psychic layer of the human community, the collective consciousness.

Think of it like a radio wave traveling through the atmosphere. Your transaction is a signal made up of words, intonations, speech patterns—the external—and the unseen but just as real, perhaps even more real, interconnectedness and interdependence—the internal.

There’s no way around it. Upwards of 90% of all human communication has nothing to do with words. There’s body language, silences, facial expressions, the rhythm of the way somebody speaks.

AND then the invisible—someone’s deep intentions, apprehensions, expectations, suspicions—the internal world you and your buyer bring to the exchange.

The internal worlds of you and your buyer interweave, determining, moment by moment, how the process will develop between you.

Your needs and desires interact, back and forth, with your buyer’s as you both shape the outcome — mostly without words.

If the transaction is to come off successfully, you both need each other. You depend on each other. Not in a co-dependent way, but interdependently, in an overt as well as unconscious partnership. So at the end, when you both are satisfied, you feel good, maybe even joyous.

We need each other, not just to get what we need to stay alive, but also we need each other to co-create the way we go about that getting.

Soft Sell marketing begins with the acceptance that our needs and desires are interconnected, mutual though different, and we co-create them at all times.

So when I am writing this blog post or an Internet sales letter (which we prefer to call an invitation letter) I am already in resonant contact with those who are attracted and open to buying what we offer.

In fact, the products we produce and the services we offer come into being through the needs of our buyers, and we are moved to bring our products and services into being in alignment with those needs.

So who is the producer and who is the consumer?

Externally the answer is obvious. But internally? That’s a whole other matter. Internally, we are interdependent at levels that go much deeper than an exchange of goods for money. And to say that we co-create is not mere poetry, it is an expression of the fundamental co-existence of everything that lives on this planet—in this Universe.

I chose ideal clients because it implies one will be a part of an ideal organization and that is highly desirable.
It is focused on the customer, not the seller.
