The Net of Gems
ByIf you prefer listening over reading, simply start this audio player to hear the complete post.
You may not have heard of the Net of Gems. It’s an Indian image where every gem in the net reflects all the other gems in the net.
And there is a Buddhist doctrine called “mutual arising.” It speaks of the cause of the universe being the common “action-influence” of all beings. In other words we are all mutually part of the cause of the universe arising.
And there is a Sanskrit term — Tat Tvam Asi — which means ‘Thou Art That.”
So why are we writing about these esoteric images and ideas?
To say it in one word — interdependence.
We’ve written a lot about how we are all interdependent. We co-create this life we live together for better or worse. We are all gems in the net reflecting one another.
So as marketers, we must remain conscious about and sensitive to our responsibility to those we market to that we treat them with the respect of Tat Tvam Asi – you are me and I am you.
We must be aware of how we treat others — overtly or subtly – in our marketing because as we treat others so we treat ourselves.
Much of what passes as marketing, especially on the Internet, is more like hammering, and is often devoid of any sense of human connection and any sense of the consequence of that absence of human connection.
We see that all the time everywhere and we know you do as well.
It’s not metaphysical claptrap to say we are all connected. It’s a simple, demonstrable fact. You are to us and we are to you. We are all gems in the net, each one of us reflecting the colors of every other one of us – as we said – for better or worse.
So how can you make it better?
We work to make it better with this blog and the other programs we do. That’s why we focus on spiritual marketing, relationship marketing, integrity marketing and selling. Different words for the same reality.
Join us in this heart-based commitment to stop the blindness, the abuse in the marketplace — in the ways you deliver it and the ways you receive it.
Remember you are us and we are you – Tat Tvam Asi.

Jim,
I am always impressed with your insight. This “Web of Gems” is a wonderful illustration of your wisdom. This is the RIGHT approach to marketing – through my connection to you and your Heart of Marketing products it has become my approach.

Jim: This was a beautiful post. To think of how something will return energetically, as we consider its release into the world, is a powerful reflection.
Thank you!

The interconnections, as so beautifully explained here, are profoundly important. It’s not only crucial to realize the interconnections are there, but to take action on them, to act in a way that is consistent with that idea of “Tat Tvam Asi.” This soft sell community, convened by Judith and Jim, the founders and powerful connectors, is a wonderful net of gems, each glinting from the reflections among all of us together. Each one of us plays a part in growing, expanding, and shining our light as part of this community, as co-creators with them of a new paradigm of how to do business and marketing. Shining brightly!
Here’s my favorite quote that illustrates what you’re saying, and it’s the motto of my business:
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect…
