Soft Sell’s Future Is Grounded Solidly in the “First Globals”
ByI just came across an article about a new book, “The Way We’ll Be,” written by conservative pollster, John Zogby. He is a political right of center opinion taker and I point that out not for political reasons but to highlight the fact that what he writes about in his book would not automatically be expected from a man of his political leanings.
But Zogby is a very credible and honest pollster and that’s what makes his findings so remarkable—and so relevant to the continued rise of Soft Sell Internet Marketing.
The generation now coming-of-age Zogby calls the “New Globals.” He defines them as that group of Americans, between the ages 18 and 29, who:
** Focus on relationships
** Are the first color-blind Americans
** Possess a global perspective
** Want honesty and fairness
** Appeal to the best in humanity not the worst
** Consider themselves citizens of the planet
AND
** Demand authenticity and not spin. They yearn for authenticity like no generation before. They’ve had it up to here with marketing, whether political or commercial, that’s all hype and a payoff that falls far short.
Soft Sell Marketing, especially on the Internet, is grounded in authenticity and not spin. It’s heart-centered and emotionally connected so it’s all about creating and maintaining relationships. And relationships cannot last unless they are based in honesty and mutual regard.
As we say — Soft Sell is not a revolution. It’s an evolution.

Hi guys
Even though I’m a Canadian and Zogby talks of young Americans, he does refer to them as “New Globals”.
I’m really happy to hear something positive about the future instead of all the “doom and gloom”. Much of what young people see and do is not only positive but worldwide.
I’m one of those people who believes that each of us is “good” and that’s what I see in every person and every circumstance. From the time that I was an elementary grade schoolteacher (from 1972-80), I’ve smiled at the people and world around me. I see the young child filledwith happiness and hope no matter what age people are.
Thank you John Zogby, young people, and everyone who sees posibilities around them

I am so happy to see this sort of thing being brought to the forefront.
It is more than time for it to be acknowledged. I am in my mid 60s and have been pushing this for the past 40 years. Maybe I was one of the true flower children, who knows? It is time for honesty and truthfulness to be brought out and an end to the buyer beware era. The omission of facts is as much a lie as the out and out untruthfulness of most advertisement. The acquisition of capital is not everything, and the straight forwardness to respect the customer is truly needed.

Trudy,
Young people, because of the world’s gone global via the internet, possess a very different psychology than any any of the generations that have come before. That is a HUGE non-nationally-narcicisstic difference. They are as some of us elders are citizens of the world.

Paul,
We too are in our mid-60s and have felt outside society all of our lives. For a long time like misfits but now as seers of what must come next. Evidently so are you. This blog and our Bridging Heart & Marketing conferences are our way of expressing the emergence of authenticity (which unfortunately has become a buzz word) sincerity, honesty and emotional openness we see as more than necessary. They are evolutionary.

Well isn’t it indeed a grand time to be alive?
I don’t think it is by accident that each of us is here right now to usher in this VERY exciting time on our planet and I , for one, am enjoying (mostly) the ride!

This type of “Psychographic” (instead of Demographic) was first profiled in the book, “The Cultural Creatives: How 50 Million People Are Changing The World.” The book was authored by Paul Ray, Ph.D., and Sherry Ruth Anderson, Ph.D. It came out in 2000, and should be on the reading list of EVERY SINGLE Soft Sell Marketer.
That Cultural Creatives book is what gave me the courage to move into the marketing world with a “Soft Topic” subject like Consciousness & Spirituality (among other things).
For all you people who have felt disconnected from society for many years, just know that you are not alone, and this book profiles what many of us in this community stand for.
It’s nice to see that there is a younger generation who is also coming along who is into this kind of life experience.
Thanks!

Cindy,
Yes. To be able to contribute to the movement, the evolution of consciousness, and to do so consciously is truly exciting. Soft Sell marketing is part of that contribution.
Jim
Andrew,
What a pleasure to hear you talk about this community. If we took a survey I bet we’d fibd that most of us Soft Sellers – if not all of us, have felt disconnected and, of course, blamed ourselves. Well — NO MORE!!!!
Let’s Keep Spreading The Word . . .
