Leadership Styles and the Elements of the Servant Leader
Posted by: | CommentsIn a free eBook I just read – 26 Principles of Working for Good – written by Jeff Klein, Julie Van Amerongen, and Elad Levinson, one of the principles they listed is “Servant Leadership.”
Jeff Klein identifies the term “servant leadership” as first being coined Robert K. Greenleaf. Servant leadership, Klein continues . . .
“reflects the practices of spiritual masters and inspirational leaders throughout human history. He then listed ten characteristics of the servant leader:
listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.Having just written a post on the current Internet marketing buzzwords I thought it appropriate to follow with this list, because it describes what we and you are doing as soft sell marketers, even though we may never have consciously articulated them. Each of these qualities warrants a post in itself and it is my intent to do just that.So let’s begin with “listening.” Read More→
Love – The Cornerstone of Soft Sell Conscious Marketing
Posted by: | CommentsThere are a lot of buzzwords being buzzed about in Internet marketing circles. The list includes “transparency” and “believability”. “Authenticity” is a very big buzzer.
I wrote a series of posts last year about some of these words and I included “interdependence” as crucial to understanding the necessity and value of Soft Sell Marketing.
But after a year I’ve come to believe, through Judith’s and my my own experience . . . Read More→
Business Week Magazine: They Forget the Human Element!
Posted by: | Comments
In their April 17th edition of Business Week, the editors included an article titled: “What Good Are Economists Anyway?”
The article focused on how economists failed to predict the world-wide economic collapse, the most serious crisis since the 1930s. The article then states: “And now they can’t agree how to solve it.”
As part of the critique of professional economists Paul Wilmott, a quantitative financial expert says: “Economists’ models are just awful. They completely forget how important the human element is.”
And that’s coming from a quantitative expert, a numbers guy!
But, after all, doesn’t that seem obvious?? !!
Apparently not.
The entire discipline of economics is based, almost exclusively, on numbers — mathematical formulae that are supposed to represent the reality of an economic system. But, as Wilmott says, the human element is left out.
What ??!! The human element ??!! But isn’t that what economics is all about? The human element. It’s about people, not curves and graphs and charts and spreadsheets. It’s about people.
The people are what makes an economic system function. What we do. What we want. How we feel. What we perceive. What we fear. What we believe. And . . . what motivates us to spend our money!
But those pesky emotions don’t fit well into formulae that are suppsoed to be prediutive and mathematically elegant.
Economics is not physics. And it would behoove the academic economist to take a look in the mirror at what they see.
A person.
“The human element.”
Even the phrase “the human element” is an abstraction. It suggests that people are just one of the factors of the formula instead of why the formula was invented to begin with.
That’s why our book — The Heart of Marketing: Love Your Customers and They Will Love You Back — has marketers buzzing, online and off.

Since I’ve started using the soft-sell techniques from “The Heart of Marketing,” my sales are up, repeat customers ask for me by name and for the first time in 6 years, I love my job, my customers and, most importantly, leave the office every day with my soul intact.
The Heart of Marketing is about people — real flesh and blood people — both the sellers and the buyers.

The Heart of Marketing Becomes Best Seller Before Book Is Printed
Posted by: | Comments
Our new book, The Heart of Marketing: Love Your Customers and They Will Love You Back achieved best seller status at amazon.com before the book was even printed. As soon as the announcement for the book was released at amazon.com eager buyers placed their pre-publication orders rocketing the book to #2 in the Direct Marketing category.
Business people realize that something has got to change. We cannot continue with the single-minded ambition of making as much money as possible without much, if any, concern for the aftereffects.
Collectively people have lost millions, actually billions, most of whom could least afford it and through no fault of their own. What we’re really excited about is that people are now hungry for a different point of view. And since we got into marketing completely naive, we had no limiting or distorted preconceptions. So we could see how much of Internet marketing lacked heart; lacked any sense of human-to-human connection.
And that’s what people so desperately need now. We are convinced that a more caring and conscious approach to marketing and selling will transform the world of commerce. We call it Soft Sell Marketing, marketing with consciousness and conscience. It’s our intent to bring commerce and caring together for the betterment of life on the planet.
So that they impact each other. Caring should not be run from in the world of business. And making money should not be seen as corrupting in the world of care-giving.

Soft Sell Marketing Template? It’s internal . . .
Posted by: | CommentsWe’ve been asked: What is the basic template of soft sell?
Asking about templates point to a desire for a system, a repetitive, predictable process that creates efficiency and economy.
No business could exist if it had to invent new processes for every new product offer. So systemization is necessary.
But a focus in systems usually reveals an external, mechanized approach.
So here’s another way to ask the question: Can there be a template for the internal aspect of marketing.
And the answer is “yes.”
